NEPC Workshop: Utilizing Trade Agreements for Improved Performance of Nigeria’s Non‑Oil Export Sector Date: 6 November 2025 Venue: Tinapa Hall, Enterprise Development Centre, Prof. Eyo House, Marian Road, Calabar On 6 November 2025, the Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC) convened a one‑day workshop at Tinapa Hall titled "Utilizing Trade Agreements for Improved Performance of the Non‑Oil Export Sector in Nigeria." The event gathered public- and private‑sector stakeholders to explore how Nigerian exporters can better leverage bilateral and multilateral trade agreements to increase market access and competitiveness. The State Coordinator of NEPC Cross River State, Dr. Osas’Damian Omorogbe, delivered the ED/CEO keynote address and urged exporters to study and use existing trade deals to penetrate international markets. He noted that a significant number of Nigerian exporters remain unaware of the scope and practical benefits of these agreements. Declaring the workshop open, the State Accountant General and Head of SABER, Dr. (Mrs.) Glory Tony Effiong, encouraged participants to engage actively with the presentations and to take away actionable knowledge to implement in their export operations. Participants included a cross‑section of stakeholders from both the public and private sectors involved in the production, processing and export of non‑oil products. The programme combined expert presentations, case studies and interactive discussions focused on topics such as: understanding rules of origin, exploiting preferential market access, documentation and compliance, and practical steps to meet international buyer requirements. Dr. Annie Iton, CEO of BrightFlow Logistics, shared her hands‑on export experience, illustrating how strategic use of trade agreements and rigorous compliance have helped her company expand into new markets. Her contribution highlighted the role of logistics, documentation and regulatory knowledge in translating trade agreements into real business opportunities for Nigerian exporters. The workshop closed with a renewed call for greater awareness, capacity‑building and collaboration across stakeholders to ensure that Nigeria’s non‑oil exporters can fully benefit from trade agreements and increase foreign earnings.
